Where is the wind meter situated?

The wind meter is situated fairly high up, near Exmouth town centre. It was deliberately placed here to give accurate readings in ALL directions. The choice of location is well thought out. If the meter were next to the duck pond or the sea front it would only receive accurate readings  from certain wind directions.

Are the wind readings accurate?

Wind speeds have been checked at the sea front and the duck pond using a commercial, hand-held anemometer. These were

then cross-checked with the results from exmouthwind.co.uk. It is important to remember that the given reading is for the average wind speed over a period of time. This gives an overall picture of wind conditions rather than an individual's perception of the wind speed, which is often influenced by gusts.

How often are readings taken?

Weather readings are taken by the anemometer every few seconds. These are then averaged and uploaded to the website every half hour.

Why does the temperature seem a bit high?

The temperature readings can be slightly deceptive as the thermometer is enclosed in the wind meter housing and this creates a slightly higher temperature measurement than actually exists.
